Family Volunteering: Mark Your Calendars!
The busy schedules we all keep can make quality time with family a rare commodity. When the weekend rolls around and we have a few seconds to spend with our husbands and children, the last thing we are looking for is another thing on the to-do list. However, by volunteering with your family you can meet your need for spending time with loved ones while also fulfilling your commitment to participate fully in your community.
This Spring, consider replacing your weekend outing to the zoo, aquarium or museum with an outing that will be fun, meaningful and will serve to cultivate a future generation of volunteers! JLA members can look forward to 2 more family volunteering activities this League year. Please mark your calendars now for our upcoming events and turn your family time into family outreach time.
Saturday, February 9 th, 10am to noon - Genesis Shelter
Love is in the air and what better way to show it than by helping others in need? JLA families will have an opportunity to host a Valentine’s Day celebration for the children and clients at Genesis Shelter, an organization serving homeless newborns and their families. Volunteers will assist with crafts, games and refreshments. You can participate in and enjoy the festivities while knowing that you and your family are providing a very worthwhile service. Space is limited, so please RSVP early. Children ages 3 and up can participate.
Saturday, March 8 th, 9am to noon - Homestretch
Bring your family out to support Homestretch, the Housing Initiative of North Fulton. Homestretch is a self-sufficiency program that assists local families who have suffered temporary financial and housing crisis. Their transitional housing community of single-family residences is in need of some exterior maintenance and upkeep. JLA families will assist with painting and staining various outdoor areas as well as general landscape cleanup. No ladder work is required. Supplies will be provided. Age of child volunteers is at parent’s discretion.
