Transferring Into the Junior League of Atlanta

If you're moving to the Atlanta area and are interested in joining The Junior League of Atlanta, we'd love to have you! Over time, Atlanta has become an internationally recognized metropolitan area lauded for its progressive spirit and people. Since 1916, The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. (JLA) has played a major role in expanding and enhancing the quality of life experienced by local citizens.

How to Transfer

  • To transfer to The Junior League of Atlanta You must notify your CURRENT League. The procedure varies by League so check the League's website, your membership directory, or contact the Corresponding Secretary for guidance.
  • Your League will notify the Junior League of Atlanta of your intent to transfer and we will mail you a welcome letter and a "New Member Profile." Please return the completed profile (along with any required payment) within 30 days so we can quickly complete your transfer and get you into an upcoming Transfer Education group (or a placement).
  • If you are due a refund from your previous League, please work with them to arrange for the refund. Each League is independent and there is no way to transfer funds between Leagues.

What to Expect After Your Transfer is Complete

Our League is one of the largest in the Association of Junior Leagues International with over 4,000 members. In order to make your transfer into the JLA as informative and fulfilling as possible we offer a Transfer Education placement to incoming Active members twice each League year. This is a wonderful opportunity to join with other Active Transfers in a structured program to learn about Atlanta and the JLA’s impact on the city. A member of the Transfer Committee will contact you about the upcoming Transfer Course schedule (please see the Active Transfer page for details).

If you’re a previous JLA member (or if you’re familiar with our League’s structure, placement opportunities, leadership structure, etc.) you may also elect to jump right into one of our many placement opportunities! Please specify your preference when you return your “New Member Profile” form.

Other Leagues in Metro Atlanta

The Junior League of Atlanta is proud to be one of four Junior Leagues in the Metro Atlanta area. Other Leagues in our area include Cobb-Marietta, DeKalb County, and Gwinnett & North Fulton Counties. We would love to have you as part of the Junior League of Atlanta, but please check the websites of the other Atlanta-area Leagues as one of them may be closer to you.


Transferring Out From the Junior League of Atlanta

We're sorry to see you go and wish you the best of luck in your new home! If you're moving out of the Atlanta area and would like to transfer to another League, please follow these steps:

Ensure You're In Good-Standing

Before you transfer to a new League, you must be in good-standing with The Junior League of Atlanta. Ensure that your dues have been paid for the current year and that all outstanding obligations have been met. If you submit your transfer request after March 1st, you must pay your JLA dues for the next League year. Once your transfer has been completed, you may be eligible for a full or partial refund (see transfer and refund schedule at bottom of this page).

If you've resigned or if you've been dropped from The Junior League of Atlanta and would like to transfer to another League, you must first reinstate your membership with The Junior League of Atlanta. To start the reinstatement process, please submit a request for reinstatement by mail, email (info@jlatlanta.org), or fax (404-814-0656). Simply let us know that you'd like to reinstate your membership and provide us with your current contact information, the approximate date you left the League, and your AJLI member number (if available).

Establish Your New Address

Before submitting a transfer request, you must establish your new address to ensure your new League can contact you. If you haven't yet established telephone service in your new area (or if your cell phone company does not provide service in your new area), please be sure that you have an email address that you can access after you've moved. Email services like Hotmail, Yahoo!, and Gmail are great as they'll move with you (and they're usually free)!

Determine Your New League

Please visit the Association of Junior Leagues, International (AJLI) web page to determine the most appropriate League in your new area. You can use the "Locate a League" function on the AJLI web page. You may also click on the "Members Area" for much more extensive information on each League in the "Junior League Contact Directory" (you are required to log in to use the members-only functions).

Submit a Transfer Form to The Junior League of Atlanta

To initiate the transfer process, please download a transfer form from the Junior League of Atlanta website or fill out the form at the back of your Membership Directory. You can mail the form to League Headquarters (3154 Northside Parkway NW, Atlanta, GA 30327), email it to info@jlatlanta.org, or fax it to 404-814-0656. Once we've received your transfer request we'll notify notify your new League and you'll hear from them soon!

Respond Quickly When Contacted By Your New League

AJLI has developed a new electronic transfer system and the whole process has been dramatically improved! You'll hear from your new League shortly after we've notified them of your intent to transfer. PLEASE RESPOND QUICKLY to all communications from your new League! If you fail to respond quickly you may miss important deadlines for placements and education classes.

IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT BOTH YOUR NEW LEAGUE AND THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ATLANTA HAVE YOUR MOST UP-TO-DATE CONTACT INFORMATION! If your address, telephone numbers, or email address changes, please notify your new League and the Junior League of Atlanta as soon as possible.

Please note that once The Junior League of Atlanta enters your transfer request into the AJLI system, you will officially be a member of your new League. You must respond to all communications from your new League, submit any required forms, and pay any required fees (dues, transfer fee, etc.) to complete your transfer. If you don't complete all the required steps your membership could be dropped... avoid this by completing all transfer requirements on a timely basis.

What to Expect When Your Transfer is Complete

After The Junior League of Atlanta has completed your transfer we'll automatically issue any required dues refund. We'll send you a letter to your new address when your transfer is complete and we'll indicate if a refund is due along with the amount you can expect. Because each League is independent, we cannot transfer funds between Leagues. Our goal is to mail any required refund within two weeks.

Junior League of Atlanta Transfer Deadlines

PROVISIONAL TRANSFERS

Provisional members transferring into the Junior League of Atlanta must complete their transfers (including payment of dues and submission of any required forms) based on the following schedule:

  • To be part of the 2007-2008 FALL Provisional Development Education program, your transfer must be completed no later than August 1, 2007
  • To be part of the 2007-2008 WINTER Provisional Development Education program, your transfer must be completed no later than December 1, 2007

If your transfer is completed after these deadlines, you'll automatically be enrolled in the Provisional Development Education program in the Fall of the following League year. You will be welcome to attend all meetings, participate in all events, and you'll receive all League communications.

ACTIVE TRANSFERS

Active members transferring into the Junior League of Atlanta must complete their transfers (including payment of dues and submission of any required forms) based on the following schedule:

  • To be part of the 2007-2008 FALL Transfer Education program, your transfer must be completed no later than August 1, 2007
  • To be part of the 2007-2008 WINTER Transfer Education program, your transfer must be completed no later than December 1, 2007

If your transfer is completed after these deadlines, you'll automatically be enrolled in the Transfer Education program in the Fall of the following League year. You will be welcome to attend all meetings, participate in all events, and you'll receive all League communications. You will also have the opportunity to immediately enroll in an open placement if you'd like to get right to work!

SUSTAINING & EMERITUS TRANSFERS

There are no deadlines for Sustaining and Emeritus transfers. Once your transfer is complete, you'll be eligible to join the League Sustaining Transfers (LST) group and our variety of Cheers groups. You will be welcome to attend all meetings, participate in all events, and you'll receive all League communications.


Transfer Refund Schedule

Please Note: The "League year" for all Junior Leagues runs from June 1st through May 31st.

If your transfer is initiated between March 1st and June 30th...

You will be entitled to a full refund of dues paid for the upcoming League year from the "sending League" and you will owe full dues to the "receiving League" (along with any required fees). Because each League is independent, we cannot transfer dues payments between Leagues. If you are due a refund from your previous League, please work directly with that League to arrange for a refund.

Members Transferring TO The Junior League of Atlanta:

  • PROVISIONAL members transferring into the JLA March 1-June 30 will owe JLA dues & fees of $278 (dues of $153 and provisional cours fee of $125); they will receive a full refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the upcoming League year
  • ACTIVE members transferring into the JLA March 1-June 30 will owe JLA dues & fees of $213 (dues of $153 and a transfer fee of $60); they will receive a full refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the upcoming League year
  • SUSTAINING members transferring into the JLA March 1-June 30 will owe JLA dues & fees of $168 (dues of $108 and a transfer fee of $60); they will receive a full refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the upcoming League year
  • EMERITUS members transferring into the JLA March 1-June 30 will not be charged dues or a transfer fee

Members Transferring FROM The Junior League of Atlanta:

  • Members transferring FROM the Junior League of Atlanta March 1-June 30 will automatically receive a full refund of dues paid for the upcoming League year; they will owe full dues (plus any other required fees) to the receiving league

If your transfer is initiated between July 1st and December 31st...

You will be entitled to a 50% refund from the "sending League" exclusive of the AJLI per-capita dues (currently $35) and you will owe the "receiving League" 50% of their normal dues exclusive of the AJLI per-capita dues

Members Transferring TO The Junior League of Atlanta:

  • PROVISIONAL members transferring into the JLA July 1-December 31 will owe JLA dues & fees of $184 (dues of $59 and provisional cours fee of $125); they will receive a 50% refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the upcoming League year (exclusive of the $35 per-capita AJLI dues)
  • ACTIVE members transferring into the JLA July 1-December 31 will owe JLA dues & fees of $119 (dues of $59 and a transfer fee of $60); they will receive a 50% refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the upcoming League year (exclusive of the $35 per-capita AJLI dues)
  • SUSTAINING members transferring into the JLA July 1-December 31 will owe JLA dues & fees of $96.50 (dues of $36.50 and a transfer fee of $60); they will receive a 50% refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the upcoming League year (exclusive of the $35 per-capita AJLI dues)
  • EMERITUS members transferring into the JLA July 1-December 31 will not be charged dues or a transfer fee

Members Transferring FROM The Junior League of Atlanta:

  • PROVISIONAL members transferring from the JLA July 1-December 31 receive a refund of $59 (the course fee is non-refundable if the member has started her provisional education); they will owe 50% of any dues paid to the "receiving " League for the upcoming League year (exclusive of the $35 per-capita AJLI dues) along with any required fees
  • ACTIVE members transferring from the JLA July 1-December 31 receive a refund of $59; they will owe 50% of any dues paid to the "receiving " League for the upcoming League year (exclusive of the $35 per-capita AJLI dues) along with any required fees
  • SUSTAINING members transferring from the JLA July 1-December 31 receive a refund of $36.50; they will owe 50% of any dues paid to the "receiving " League for the upcoming League year (exclusive of the $35 per-capita AJLI dues) along with any required fees
  • EMERITUS members transferring from the JLA July 1-December 31 will not receive a refund from the JLA (dues were not required); please contact the "receiving" League for dues and fees owed (if any)

If your transfer is initiated after December 31st...

You will not receive refund from the "sending League" and the "receiving League" will not collect dues for the CURRENT League year. Some Leagues (including The Junior League of Atlanta) may require that you pre-pay your dues for the NEXT League year as part of the transfer process. The rules of each League may vary so please carefully read and follow the

Members Transferring TO The Junior League of Atlanta:

  • PROVISIONAL members transferring into the JLA after December 31st will owe JLA dues & fees of $278 (dues of $153 and provisional course fee of $125) - THIS IS A PREPAYMENT OF DUES FOR THE NEXT LEAGUE YEAR; they will not receive a refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the current League year
  • ACTIVE members transferring into the JLA after December 31st will owe JLA dues & fees of $213 (dues of $153 and transfer fee of $60) - THIS IS A PREPAYMENT OF DUES FOR THE NEXT LEAGUE YEAR; they will not receive a refund of any dues paid to their "sending" League for the current League year

Members Transferring FROM The Junior League of Atlanta:

  • Members transferring FROM the Junior League of Atlanta after December 31st will not receive any refund for dues or fees paid for the current League year; they must pay the receiving League any required fees (rules vary from League-to-League)
