2009 Award Recipient

The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. wishes to congratulate the 2008 Empowerment Award Recipients, MARR and Teresa Bradley. Teresa Bradley came to MARR’s Right Side Up Program in October 2005. Right Side Up (RSU) is a Ready for Work residential treatment program designed for women who are challenged with substance abuse problems. The program promotes family preservation by allowing women to enter treatment with their children.

Upon her entrance to the program, Teresa had lost touch with who she truly was; her strengths, her weaknesses, even the depth of her addiction. A series of wrong choices had taken her focus off her goal of a degree in criminal justice. Her reality of the real world was foggy, and she knew it was time for a change.

Teresa willfully and successfully took the necessary steps to change her life. She embraced the knowledge of addiction, both the psychological aspect and the disease itself, and now uses that knowledge every day to help others take those first steps to recovery as an intake counselor for Fulton County Mental Health, Developmental Disorders and Addictive Diseases.

Teresa Bradley faced difficult obstacles and challenges, turned herself around, and became a positive asset to herself, her family and our community, and we at the Junior League of Atlanta are immensely proud to honor her and the agency that played such an integral role in her recovery, MARR.

Kids Who Care Awards

For more than 20 years 11Alive and The Junior League of Atlanta have joined together to present the Kids Who Care Awards, honoring local high school students who are dedicated to making their community a better place. These are students who go above and beyond what is expected and unselfishly make a difference in the lives of others in their communities. Through organizations such as Hosea Feed the Hungry, Hands on Atlanta, American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics, these high schoolers are using their talents and skills to help others.

Students in grades 9 through 12 and perform a service to the community, which is not school related, may be nominated. Five are selected based on their outstanding service to local organizations. Click here to download the 2009 Kids Who Care nomination form. Please return this form by March 1, 2009 to: Kids Who Care, WXIA-TV, 11Alive, One Monroe Place, Atlanta, GA 30324

Winners are awarded an $1,100 scholarship along with a certificate of Excellence at The Junior League of Atlanta annual meeting in May, and are also recognized on 11Alive. Winners and their parents are also invited to an awards dinner where they are given their certificate.
