The Junior League of Atlanta's Nearly New Shop
Since opening its doors in 1949, the Junior League of Atlanta’s Nearly New Shop has served hundreds of thousands of customers, raised more than four million dollars in net revenue, and moved eight times — growing with each relocation. Countless memories have been made by every League member who has worked at Nearly New at some point in their League career. More than 350 League members work more than 7,000 hours at the store and more than 1000 members make direct donations to the store on a yearly basis. Just as The Nearly New Shop helps financially support the efforts of the Junior League, so do the members of the Junior League of Atlanta help support the Nearly New.
The Nearly New Shop opened its doors after careful research, led by then president of JLA, Mary Elizabeth Schroder. “We knew we were going to be losing some income from the Metropolitan Opera, so we were looking for another fundraiser to implement,” said Mary Elizabeth. After seeing the success other leagues were having with their own second-hand shops, Mary Elizabeth and the JLA leaders put together a committee to investigate the feasibility of a shop and started making plans. “All of the fundraisers we had done up to that point were really events or programs of some other organization that benefited the League.” Mary Elizabeth went on to state, “the idea that we could possibly raise the money all on our own was an entirely new concept.”
Throughout all the growth, the mission of The Nearly New Shop has remained the same: to offer quality merchandise and a positive Junior League image, to raise money for community projects, and to offer an interesting, fun placement for members. Proceeds from the Nearly New Shop are used to train and educate League members for effective community service, as well as to financially support projects and programs where League volunteers serve.

Donation Information
The Junior League of Atlanta's Nearly New Shop depends on donations from members and the public. Proceeds from the Nearly New Shop are used to train and educate League members for effective community service, as well as to financially support projects and programs where League volunteers serve.
Here are some donation tips you might find helpful. Iteme of interest include:
- Women's, men's, and children's clothing as well as bric-a-brac, working appliances, toys, linens, jewelry, watches, books, rugs, furniture, purses, belts, working electronics, and similar items are appreciated. Clothes should be in good condition, clean, pressed, free of stains and neatly folded or on hangers.
- Sponsorship credit will be offered to anyone giving 300 or more items during our fiscal year, June 1 through May 31. Click here
for the sponsorship form to bring with your donation. - Please bring your donations to dock at the rear of the store during regular store hours - ring the doorbell if the doors are closed and a Nearly New staff member or volunteer will be happy to assist you.
- Don't forget to ask for a receipt if you need one for tax reporting purposes (Please Note: It is the responsibility of the donor to assign value to their donation).
- Donations are accepted Monday-Thursday 11 am - 7 pm, Friday-Saturday 11am - 6 pm, and Sunday 12 pm - 5 pm.
Sponsorship
The Nearly New Shop recognizes donors making substantial contributions to its inventory by designating them as Sponsors. Donors giving approximately $600 worth of merchandise (about 300 items of merchandise) achieve “Car Load Sponsor” status and donors giving approximately $1000 worth of merchandise (about 500 items of merchandise) achieve “Truck Load Sponsor” status.
